Kathleen A. Moran
Ms. Moran is a shareholder, director and Vice President/Secretary of the firm. She practices primarily in the areas of corporate law, business transactions, probate and general business matters. Ms. Moran also regularly advises business clients regarding employment matters and supports the firm’s estate planning practice, assisting clients with both routine and complex estate planning matters. Ms. Moran also assists mineral owners in satisfying requirements necessary to clear title issues, including the completion of original and ancillary probate proceedings, quiet title actions and other related legal proceedings.
Ms. Moran represents clients operating in a wide variety of industries and markets. She has represented numerous clients in the sale of closely-held businesses, having handled individually and with other members of the firm numerous significant business sales and acquisitions, both in and outside of the oil and gas industry. She regularly represents businesses in the oil and gas service industry, financial institutions, farming, ranching and dairy operations, nonprofits, higher educational institutions and individuals facing a variety of legal issues. She helps employers avoid disputes with employees and regulators by designing and reviewing employment policies and practices. She has also served as outside general counsel to a food manufacturer during a nationwide recall and FDA investigation, leading a team of special counsel in responding to regulatory actions, multi-state recall litigation and insurance coverage disputes.
First admitted to the bar in California, Ms. Moran practiced in Los Angeles with a national law firm for several years. After returning to Hobbs, she was admitted to practice in New Mexico in 2006. She has also been admitted to practice before the U.S. Court of Federal Claims.
Ms. Moran graduated with highest honors and as a member of Phi Beta Kappa from the University of Notre Dame with a Bachelor of Arts in Economics in 1989. She graduated with honors from the University of Texas School of Law in 1992.
Professional and Civic Activities
Ms. Moran has served as president and as treasurer of the Lea County Bar Association and has also served on the Judicial Nominating Commission for the 5th Judicial District. She served on the Board of Directors of the Economic Development Corporation of Lea County from 2007 to 2013 and is a graduate of the Leadership New Mexico Class of 2011. She has served as an officer and director of St. Helena School of Hobbs since 2006.
